Daniel Widen of The River Source Team
My position on The River Source team is a Behavioral Health Paraprofessional (BHPP). An average day for me consists of providing direction for the patients and encouraging them to succeed in reaching their goals. I work closely with patients to help them identify the positive changes they are making and hold them accountable for behavioral infractions. Within the group setting, I facilitate and try to make learning fun while sharing my experiences, strength, and hope with them. I stand with our patients as they grow and help them develop the tools they need to live a lifetime of recovery.
To share my story, when I was a child I felt like I did not fit in anywhere even in my own family. I turned to substance abuse at an early age and found myself liking the next 33 years addicted to many substances. Finally, legal issues caught up with me and I came to a point in my life where I knew something had to change or I would be lost. I began my recovery in a 30-day treatment center and am now an active member of the 12-step program. My life has changed so dramatically that it is sometimes hard to recognize myself, but I am grateful every day. I hope that I can pass this gift to those that are truly ready to change their lives and share my story with them as well.
As someone currently in recovery, I have an honest desire to see our patients succeed and begin rebuilding their lives. Recovery is a beautiful thing and I want to help as many people possible find the beauty in their life as well.
A Little About Me…
When I am not working as a BHPP, I love to watch inspirational children’s movies and hangout with my children. I enjoy outdoor activities such as fishing, camping, and exploring in the wilderness.
