Heath McVicker of The River Source Team
I am the lead facilitator on the men’s side and run all step groups as well as process group. Part of my job is to help patients separate their delusions from reality when it comes to their drug addiction and see how their addiction has affected their lives as well as the lives of their families. I also help patients through their day-to-day struggles in early recovery and give them someone that they can trust and talk to about their problems. My wish for them is to learn how to build a fellowship amongst themselves so that they never have to be alone again.
I myself am a recovering addict and alcoholic and have been freed through the 12-step program. Having gone through treatment, I know what it’s like to be separated from family due to addiction. I had hurt a lot of people in my life and burned a lot of bridges due to my drug use. During treatment, I remember being very fearful of the future because I did not know what was coming next. So, when I get to work with a new patient who is very frightened, I can relate and meet him on his level to help him through his pain.
I love to work with addicts and alcoholics because I know exactly how they feel and what they are going through. It gives me great joy and purpose to give back the same support that was so freely given to me. I am blessed with the opportunity to work in the behavioral health field, and for that I am very grateful.
A Little About Me…
I love to spend time with my family, as well as grow with all the people that I have met in recovery. We all share a common goal, which is to be sober for the rest of our lives.
