Substance Abuse Detox
At River Source, we recognize each of our patients have their own unique history with addiction, which is why we tailor our treatment programs to their specific needs. This approach not only maximizes the opportunity for a successful detox at the start of their journey to recovery, but it also allows our detox specialists to treat the symptoms associated with addiction to different substances safely and effectively.
While withdrawal from opiates and heroin doesn’t carry a risk of being fatal, opiate withdrawal is considered one of the most difficult because of the severity of symptoms many patients experience. Detox from opiates and heroin may include rapid heartbeat, intense anxiety, nausea, vomiting and other harsh side effects, which explains why these drugs are among the most difficult to quit. In a clinical setting, we use medications to help make heroin and opiate withdrawal more bearable, including prescriptions benzos, anti-nausea medications, and opioid agonists like Suboxone.
Alcohol addiction, known as alcoholism, is one of the most common and under-treated forms of addiction. While it’s high-occurring, alcohol withdrawal can also potentially be life-threatening due to symptoms that include hallucinations, heart palpitations, seizures and a rare disorder called Delirium Tremens (DT), marked by severe and sudden changes in the nervous system. We can use medications targeted at keeping the nervous system and heart muscles relaxed, which can lower potential risk when detox occurs in a clinical setting.
We supervise and facilitate safe detox for addicts with a variety of substance disorders, including addiction to prescription drugs, various forms of cocaine, marijuana, other hallucinogenic substances, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, and more. While these conditions may not be as common as addiction to alcohol, as well as opiates like heroin and opioid pain relievers, the team at River Source works to treat addiction to a wide variety of substances, each with their own sets of unique withdrawal symptoms and treatment considerations.
